Step-by-step
Install Chirps on Visual Studio Code
Follow the path that matches your project. Keep the generated snippet private to your workspace and verify the result on a preview URL.
Prepare the assistant knowledge
Add your public website, documentation URLs, or approved files to the Chirps dashboard. The assistant is trained on those sources; your local VS Code workspace is not uploaded by this installation guide.
Copy the installation snippet
Open the assistant's Installation tab and copy its generated embed snippet. Use the snippet for the assistant you actually intend to publish, rather than a placeholder or another workspace's ID.
Place, test, and publish
Add the snippet to the global HTML, React, or Next.js layout in VS Code. Run a local or staging build, check mobile and consent behavior, and deploy once the widget is working as expected.
Keep the installation maintainable
The embed only mounts the widget. Your content, privacy settings, bookings, leads, and handoff rules stay editable in Chirps, so a content change does not require another deployment.
Questions
Visual Studio Code integration FAQ
How do I add Chirps AI to Visual Studio Code?
Create or select an assistant in Chirps, train it on the public pages or files you choose, copy the generated installation snippet, and place it in the global layout or code-injection area for Visual Studio Code. Test the preview before publishing.
What can the Visual Studio Code assistant help with?
It can answer questions grounded in your approved knowledge, collect enquiries, offer booking or lead forms when those artifacts are enabled, and hand conversations to your configured human-support channel.
Can I change the assistant after installation?
Yes. Widget appearance, knowledge, instructions, language, and enabled artifacts are managed in Chirps. You normally do not need to edit the site code again unless you move the widget to a different layout.
